USE THE BREAST PUMP

When to Pump Breast Milk

It is recommended that, unless advised otherwise by experts, you wait until lactation and feeding become established (at least 2 to 4 weeks after the baby is born).

Exceptional Cases:

• If your baby needs to be nursed in the hospital.
• When you experience breast pain (pain or swelling), you can pump a small amount of milk before feeding or between two feedings. This helps ease the pain and makes it easier for the baby to suck.
• When your nipple is painful or chapped, you may use the pump once the nipple has healed.
• If you are temporarily separated from your baby but wish to continue breastfeeding when reunited, you should pump milk regularly to stimulate milk production.
